Background
Liriel Baenre is one of the most gifted wizards ever born to Menzoberranzan — eldest daughter of Gromph Baenre, Archmage of the city, and Sosdrielle Vandree of House Vandree. Born in 1322 DR, she is rare among drow in that she retained her surface-wizard spellcasting abilities even in the Underdark, a feat tied to the Windwalker amulet and her own exceptional power. She left Menzoberranzan and traveled the surface world, eventually carving her own path apart from her House.
She was reincarnated during the Assault of the Sea Dragon — a catastrophic attack on Neverwinter by the Half-Orc pirate Rognok Saltfang's flotilla. She emerged from that event changed, and took the name Lireal — a surface identity separate from everything Baenre and Menzoberranzan had made her.
She was imprisoned at Revel's End for sheltering homeless Aquatic Elf children displaced by Menan's later attack on Neverwinter. Whatever she sacrificed to protect those children, it cost her her freedom.
In this campaign, she travels with the party as Lireal Silverbranch — and has given them no reason to look further than that name.
Role in Campaign
Lireal appeared during Session 3, already present inside the Tarrasque with the party. The connection to Revel's End suggests the party may have crossed paths with her there (B07–12), though the exact circumstances of her joining are unconfirmed.
She travels with the party as an NPC companion.
