Knighted by Othorion

Nine years old. Runs her own intelligence operation. Attacked a frost giant with a stick she named the Sword of Legends. Tricked a drow into knighting her into a noble house. Ignored a Sending warning to turn back and walked toward the danger anyway.

She is going to be extraordinary, or she is going to get herself killed. Possibly both.

The Intelligence Network

From the moment the party arrived in Phandalin, Pip Stonehill had already built a functional information network. As the innkeeper's daughter at the Stonehill Inn, she had eyes and ears across town — and she charged for it.

"The world's best information gatherer — 1 silver piece per rumor."

She wasn't wrong. Pip's early intel on Phandalin's factions, personalities, and ongoing tensions proved consistently accurate, and the party relied on it. She ran this service with complete seriousness.

History with the Party

Arc A — The Road to Phandalin

The party first encountered Pip as a name before they met her — goblins had captured a girl from a wagon on the Triabor Trail. They found her hidden under a cart during the ambush, pulled her out, and got her home.

Back in Phandalin, she immediately became the party's best source of local intelligence. She was unusually perceptive, kept mental notes on everything that moved through the inn, and treated her gossip operation as legitimate work.

The Coneyberry Incident

Pip stowed away in the party wagon on the road to Coneyberry. When discovered, she presented this as entirely reasonable.

During the journey she deployed a weapon of her own invention: a "healing arrow" — designed, in theory, to deliver healing on impact. In practice, it did exactly as much damage as it healed. She tested it on Othorion, accidentally, by shooting him in the back.

He survived. She considered this a partial success.

The Giant Attack — The Sword of Legends

When frost giants attacked Phandalin, Pip did not hide.

She charged a giant with a stick she had named the Sword of Legends and attacked it. She nearly died. She was saved by Alger Frakk, his apprentice Maza Fieldsalder, Halia Thornton, and her father Toblin Stonehill — who between them kept her from being crushed.

This was not a moment of recklessness she regretted. It was, from her perspective, exactly what she was supposed to do.

The Drizzle Rivalry

When Drizzle — Kavu's goblin squire — joined the party, Pip was not pleased. Drizzle is six years old. Pip is nine. She is technically older. She is human. She runs an intelligence operation. She has been with the party longer.

And yet Drizzle was made a squire of Kavu and treated as a party equal, while she was still being told she was too young to go on adventures.

She was angry about this, and she was right to be — from her perspective, the logic didn't hold.

Othorion spoke to her about it. He explained the distinction honestly, and acknowledged that her frustration made sense. He also told her — perhaps unwisely, but genuinely — that he would look into it.

The Training Sword and the Knighting

Othorion followed through. He commissioned a training sword and gave it to her.

What followed was one of the more consequential sequences of events in the Phandalin arc:

Pip tricked Othorion into knighting her.

He did it. Formally. Under House Baenre.

Neverwinter — The Bank and the Ambush

Pip's parents agreed she could travel with the party to Neverwinter, with the understanding she would go no further. Her father Toblin gave her a crossbow.

In Neverwinter, she accompanied Othorion to the Guild Bank. When Kefkas' celebrity status caused chaos — surrounded by admirers — Othorion and Pip slipped out to escape the crowd.

They were ambushed in an empty square by three drow and two driders from House Baenre. Pip was incapacitated.

Drizzt Do'Urden intervened. His panther Guenhwyvar carried Pip to safety at the House of Knowledge. Kavu extracted the bolt. Roland used 20 points of Lay on Hands plus 5 to remove the drow poison.

She recovered.

The Reconciliation

After the ambush, Pip and Drizzle reconciled. Whatever the earlier rivalry had been, it resolved.

They began training together. They reportedly destroyed their room at the Neverwinter inn in the process. The details of the room's destruction are not documented.

Departure from Neverwinter

Before she left, the party had a +1 shortsword commissioned for her in Neverwinter. Not a training sword — a real weapon, made for her use. She departed Neverwinter armed properly for the first time.

Pip and Drizzle left ahead of the party, with hired guards, bound for Phandalin and Saltmarsh. This had always been the plan.

Kavu's Last Message

As the party pressed north toward Icewind Dale, Kavu sent a Sending:

"In Luskan for another day or so. No one has died. Keep an ear out for tales of Hot Shot and Little Spark."

He also warned her: do not enter Phandalin. Something bad was happening there. The party could not help.

Her response:

"I laugh in the face of danger."

She proceeded toward Phandalin.

Kelvin's Departure

Kelvin Fairlight left the party to go with her.

He did not announce it as a dramatic choice. He simply recognised that Pip was nine years old, walking toward an active threat, with only a new unfamiliar magical sword and a goblin for backup. He went to ensure her training continued and to serve as her guardian until the party returned to Phandalin.

His current status: en route to Phandalin with Pip, last confirmed heading south from Neverwinter.
