A long-abandoned village reduced to ruins, now overtaken by wilderness and dangerous creatures. The settlement consists of collapsed structures and overgrown remains with no functioning shelter. Conyberry sits at the confluence of the main road and a dangerous wilderness area patrolled by predators.
The Geography
The ruins spread across ground level with no intact buildings — collapsed walls, missing roofs, exposed floors, and rotting floors of dirt and overgrowth. The most notable feature is a cliff jutting approximately 600 feet above the town to the south. To the north, rolling woodland extends into dense forest marked by wolf territories.
The Roc Attack — Session A11
The party sought refuge in the ruins after encountering a crazed halfling barbarian on the approach road. After a difficult rest night surrounded by territorial wolf packs, the party was assaulted by a massive roc — an apex predator of enormous size. The roc grappled and carried Kavu away to a nest atop the cliff. Kelvin used Thorn Whip to pursue, becoming involuntary cargo, while Roland and Othorion climbed after. The combat in the roc's nest resulted in the party's near-death before Karlach — Roland's aunt — arrived in radiant fury and finished the creature, saving the entire group from annihilation.
Predator Territory
The area surrounding Conyberry is home to multiple packs of territorial wolves. The cliff and ruins make escape from aerial predators difficult. Roc remains have not been found in the immediate area since the nest fight, suggesting the species moves frequently.
Significance
Conyberry marks a point where the Forge Wardens faced one of their most harrowing encounters. The roc attack demonstrated the genuine lethality of wilderness predators and the degree to which Phandalin's surrounding region remains dangerous and untamed.
The nest was located atop the cliff approximately 600 feet above Conyberry. It contained a treasure hoard and a collection of large eggs. The roc was protective of its eggs and used them as part of its hunting strategy.
