Cult of the Dragon
They believe dragons are the ultimate form of life. Undead dragons especially. This is not a reasonable belief.
Faction Info
| Type | Draconic Cult |
| Alignment | Neutral Evil |
| Deity | Tiamat (some factions); Dracoliches (old faction) |
| Status | Diminished — local cell destroyed |
The Cult of the Dragon is a widespread organisation that venerates dragons — historically undead dragons (dracoliches), more recently the living servants of Tiamat. They recruit fanatics and misfits, make deals with chromatic dragons, and work toward draconic dominion over the mortal world.
Their presence in the Sword Coast fluctuates. Cells operate independently, and the destruction of one does not affect others.
Campaign Connection
Thundertree Cell
The party encountered a Cult of the Dragon cell operating out of Thundertree in Session A15. The cultists had established themselves among the ruins of the ash-zombie-infested town, drawn by the proximity of the young green dragon Venomfang, who had taken up residence in the ruined tower.
The cultists were defeated by the party. Venomfang was negotiated with separately — he agreed to relocate to Cragmaw Castle.

- The Thundertree cell is destroyed. Whether the broader Cult of the Dragon retaliates or simply doesn't know is unestablished.

- Volcathar — the dragon encountered in later arcs — appeared connected to a cult ritual in Session C11, though he was revealed to have been deceiving the cultists throughout (C13).
