Session A04
Role Bugbear contingent leader; prisoner

A bugbear sent by the Black Spider (Nezznar) to reinforce the Redbrands at Tresendar Manor. Mosk served as the leader of the bugbear contingent assigned to assist with guard duties and intimidation operations within the manor.

Background

Mosk was deployed to Phandalin as part of the Black Spider's broader strategy to secure control of the region and isolate Tresendar Manor from outside interference. Bugbears — large, brutal creatures with a reputation for savagery — were employed to increase the psychological weight of the Redbrand occupation and to provide physical muscle against adventurers or resistance movements.

Campaign Role

Tresendar Manor Encounter (Session A04)

Mosk was encountered by the party during their assault on Tresendar Manor. He was subdued in combat — knocked unconscious rather than killed — and captured for interrogation.

Following his capture, Mosk was tied up by the party. Rather than remain uncooperative, he demonstrated a pragmatic willingness to negotiate in exchange for basic courtesy: being untied.

Interrogation & Information Exchange

When untied, Mosk provided crucial information to the party: rough directions to Cragmaw Castle, the location where the Black Spider and the Redbrand leadership were based. This information proved valuable to the party's subsequent investigation and eventual assault on Cragmaw Castle.

The exchange suggests Mosk prioritized his own survival and comfort over loyalty to his employers — a trait common to mercenary contingents hired without deeper ideological investment.
