Moosh and Spore
"Softie! Fleshie! The Long Chasm awaits, but also you have good boots."
Moosh is a cheerful myconid elder standing 5.5 feet tall with a warm, curious disposition toward flesh-based travelers. Spore remains largely undefined but travels as Moosh's companion. Both are on a sacred pilgrimage with profound purpose, treating the party with familial affection despite referring to them as "softie fleshies."
Background
Moosh and Spore are elder myconids on pilgrimage to the Long Chasm to merge with Oromycos, the Elder Myconid deity. This is not a burden or final tragedy — it is a voluntary, sacred merger that represents the pinnacle of myconid existence, a return to the collective consciousness of their god.
Both are veteran travelers of the Underdark and possess valuable knowledge of passages and survival in the deep places.
First Meeting
Selene encountered Moosh and Spore while scouting ahead of the party in Session C08. They recognized each other's presence with the characteristic spore-based communication of myconids and formed an immediate bond. They have traveled with the party since then, becoming regular companions.
Connection to Stool
Moosh recognized Stool from "mushroom cartons back home" — suggesting that Stool may originate from the same myconid settlement or region, or that Stool's origins are tied to myconid culture more directly than previously understood. This connection remains one of the few concrete links to Stool's past.
Knowledge & Shortcut
Moosh revealed knowledge of a significant shortcut through the Underdark:
- Route: A warm, wet passage through a fallen tower in the Deep
- Time Saved: Reduces travel time from approximately 30 days to 3-5 days
- Current Status: The party may be using this route or may revisit it later in the campaign
Pilgrimage Purpose
The Long Chasm represents the culmination of myconid existence. Merger with Oromycos is not death in the conventional sense — it is transcendence, a return to the divine source of myconid consciousness. Moosh and Spore travel toward this goal with acceptance and purpose, treating their remaining time in individual form with warmth and humor.
Personality
Moosh's cheerfulness masks deeper philosophical understanding. References to the party as "softies" and "fleshies" are affectionate teasing rather than dismissive language. They seem to view the party's time-limited lifespan with a kind of patient compassion, treating each interaction as meaningful despite their different temporal perspectives.

GM Notes
- Moosh and Spore serve as both comic relief and philosophical anchors — their acceptance of mortality and purpose provides thematic contrast to party's increasingly dire stakes
- Their pilgrimage is a ticking clock that may become plot-relevant if the party needs myconid assistance before they reach the Long Chasm
- The shortcut knowledge is valuable world-building that demonstrates myconid expertise and grants the party meaningful resource options
