Basic Info

Race Aberration (colossal)
Type Aquatic predator
Status Frozen in time — lake preserved
Location Frozen lake, Icewind Dale tundra

A colossal alien creature preserved in frozen ice on the Icewind Dale tundra. Tharazgon is not a natural animal but an aberrant creature of unknown origin. The creature was crossing a lake when it froze mid-motion in a moment of temporal stasis.

Description

Tharazgon is fish-like in form but does not match any known animal category. The creature is massive — large enough to freeze an entire mile-wide lake beneath its body. It has:

The lake surrounding Tharazgon preserves more than just the creature: frozen in the same temporal moment are a griffin, two humanoids holding a broken wand, and a massive severed black tentacle of unknown origin.

Campaign Role

Crossing the Frozen Lake

During Session C05, the party crossed the Icewind Dale tundra to reach the Underdark entrance. Their route took them across a frozen lake of extraordinary dimensions. The party descended into the lake, crossed on foot directly over Tharazgon's preserved body, and emerged on the far side without incident.

Temporal Stasis Analysis

Haldak's Arcana check confirmed the lake was a frozen moment in time — temporal or chronomancy-adjacent magic had locked the scene in perfect suspension. No active spellwork was detectible on the surface, but the stasis itself appeared to be maintained by powerful magic.

Haldak also detected a separate temporal magic source far to the south, as distant as the party's travel from Revel's End — unrelated to the lake itself and of unknown purpose.
