Gundren Rockseeker

A dwarf miner and one of the three Rockseeker brothers. He hired Roland to escort a wagon of mining supplies to Phandalin as part of a mission from Vajra Safahr. He travelled ahead on horseback to meet his brothers Tharden and Nundro at the mines, intending to rendezvous with the wagon party upon their arrival. His capture by the Black Spider set in motion the entire first arc of the campaign.

History with the Party

Gundren was kidnapped by the Black Spider (Nezznar) on the road before the party ever arrived at Phandalin. Nezznar sought the map Gundren carried — a map to Wave Echo Cave, the legendary lost forge where he believed the Forge of Spells lay hidden.

The party learned of Gundren's fate in Session A01 through Roland's employer contract. He had been captured by Nezznar's agents and was being held at Cragmaw Castle as leverage to force his brothers to reveal the location of Wave Echo Cave.

Rescue at Cragmaw Castle — Session A19

The party infiltrated Cragmaw Castle and freed Gundren during Session A19. His rescue represented a turning point in the arc — the recovery of the primary quest target and the elimination of a major obstacle to accessing Wave Echo Cave. Gundren was relieved but determined to press forward to the mines with his brothers.
