The Redbrands were a gang of thugs, sellswords, and criminals operating out of the old Tresendar Manor beneath Phandalin. They extorted the town, intimidated merchants, murdered resisters, and kept the population in line through fear. They wore red cloaks as their symbol — a deliberate choice meant to make them visible and threatening.
Their true leader was Iarno Albrek, operating under the alias Glasstaff — a former Lord's Alliance agent who had gone rogue and taken control of the gang to pursue his own ends.
The Hideout
The Redbrands operated primarily from the undercroft and tunnels beneath Tresendar Manor, using the old manor's cellars and the natural cave system beneath it as their base. The dungeons held a nothic — an aberrant creature Glasstaff had made a deal with — in addition to captured prisoners and stored supplies.
Aldith Tresendar's spirit lingered in the crypt beneath the manor, bound there by unfinished business from the Tresendar family's past.
Dissolution
The Redbrands were broken in Sessions A03 and A04. The party cleared the hideout, fought their way through the undercroft, rescued Alger Frakk and other captives, and ultimately captured Glasstaff. The surviving Redbrands scattered.
Glasstaff was handed over for transport to Neverwinter for trial. He never arrived — he was murdered on the road by Zhentarim agents for unknown reasons.
