The legendary forge at the heart of Wave Echo Cave, capable of creating magical artifacts of exceptional quality. The Forge of Spells was the original goal of the Phandelver Pact and the motivating force behind Nezznar's entire campaign against the Forge Wardens. Its discovery and operational status represents the culmination of the first arc of the campaign.

The Pact and Its Legacy

The Forge of Spells was created and maintained under the Phandelver Pact, an agreement between the Tresendar family and the Rockseeker dwarves to guard its location and preserve its secret. The pact held for generations until orcs overran the region over a century ago, and the forge's location was lost. Gundren Rockseeker's rediscovery of the location made him a target for the Black Spider, who sought to claim the forge for himself.

Clearing the Cave

The Forge Wardens cleared Wave Echo Cave in two major expeditions spanning sessions A14–A19. The first expedition defeated Nezznar, freed Nundro Rockseeker, and established the party's claim. The second expedition cleared remaining threats including trolls, undead, a flameskull, dwarf zombies, a spectator guardian, a wraith, a giant octopus in the water chamber, and a doppelganger impersonating a drow supervisor.

Current Status and Ownership

The Forge is now operational under Phandalin's control. Othorion holds the deed via his role as the party's representative, though ownership is understood to be collective. The strategic value of the forge cannot be overstated — it is capable of creating magical items of significant power and serves as both a resource and a prize in the larger political conflicts of the region.

Notable Discoveries

A map found in Nezznar's chamber pointed toward the Chardalyn mines of Icewind Dale, establishing a crucial plot thread that led to the northern arc of the campaign. A small deposit of Chardalyn was also recovered from the cave.
