Session A17
Role Abducted soul; merged consciousness

A debonair tiefling swashbuckler with a sly smile and a confident bearing. She was a capable swordmaster and a member of an adventuring party that included at least one Shield Dwarf fighter named Vlax Brawnanvil.

Background

Igwine was an accomplished swashbuckler and adventurer. She carried a Masterwork Silvered Rapier that she valued highly. She traveled with a mixed party that included Vlax Brawnanvil, a Shield Dwarf fighter — the nature of their broader relationships and how the party dissolved is unresolved.

At some point before the Forge Wardens' campaign, Igwine was captured by a hag operating out of the Neverwinter Wood. The hag extracted her soul and bound it into a black gem, using Igwine's spirit as a bargaining chip.

Campaign Role

Abduction and Soul Binding

Igwine was abducted by a hag near the High Road east of Phandalin. A magical Sylvan sigil set on the road triggered when she passed — the spell transformed her body to mist and transported her to the hag's cave. The hag extracted her soul and bound it in a black gem inscribed with her name.

The hag held Igwine's soul as leverage when negotiating with the Forge Wardens, demanding magical items in exchange for her soul. When negotiations failed, the party fought the hag, and Othorion recovered the gem during combat.

Soul Atunement and Merger

Othorion attuned to the gem. As he did, Igwine's soul disintegrated the gem and merged directly into his consciousness. She became a permanent passenger in his mind — aware, capable of independent thought and speech, but unable to control his body without his consent.

Upon merger, her first words expressed confidence in her new situation: "I suppose you and I can get along. You are quite handsome. And you seem to be good with a blade. I suggest that you ask your friend there for mine. I think it might be better than one of you. Let's see if we can't find someone who can fix this, yes?"

She immediately requested that her rapier be located and returned to her — the Masterwork Silvered Rapier that Roland had been carrying.

Mechanical Benefits

Igwine's presence has granted Othorion stat improvements and skill benefits: +1 Dexterity, proficiency in Investigation, expertise in Perception — the equivalent of the Skill Expert feat. She is functionally a skilled companion who expects the party to actively work toward finding a way to restore her to a physical form.

Recognition and Reunion

Months into the campaign, during a visit to Revel's End prison in Icewind Dale, the warden Marta Marthannis entered the infirmary possessed by her "rowdy counterpart" — a drunk, violent entity who shouted in Dwarvish. Igwine immediately surfaced in Othorion's consciousness and identified the possessing entity: Vlax Brawnanvil, her former adventuring partner.

Igwine provided Othorion with a Dwarvish greeting that only Vlax would recognize. The entity possessing the warden acknowledged the greeting with a creepy smile before withdrawing. The implications of Vlax's presence at Revel's End, his connection to the warden, and what relationship exists between Igwine and her former companion remain unclear.

Consumed by Blackrazor

When the Forge Wardens were trapped inside a Tarrasque, Othorion pulled the sentient sword Blackrazor from the creature's flesh. Blackrazor is a soul-devouring weapon — and Igwine's soul, bound to Othorion's consciousness since the hag's gem shattered, was consumed by the blade. Her presence within Othorion was extinguished.
